The Mississippi River has inspired the artists of the Delta in as many ways as artists make art. Landscape painters capture the history and spirit of the river and surrounding lands in their work, and ceramicists use the Delta mud to make pottery and sculpture out of the very soil they stand on.

There's a rich folk art tradition the Delta, work made from bottle tops and other found objects, but there are also artists working in wood and glass and fabric and steel. Inspired by the land and the history around them, Delta artists are finding new ways -- and new takes on traditional art -- to interpret the Delta and their lives in it.
