Casinos, Civil War & Delta Heritage

Illinois Monument at the
Vicksburg National Military Park
Vicksburg’s rolling hills, high river bluffs and lush forests may not quite fit in with the vast cotton and soybean fields you’ll find in the rest of this Mississippi region. But when it comes to music, entertainment, history, food and lifestyle, there’s no doubt Vicksburg shares the Delta’s unique culture.
Located on the Mississippi River, the city is known for its famous "Catfish Row," Siege of Vicksburg battlefield memorial, dozens of antebellum bed and breakfasts, and Vicksburg casinos.
Civil War History
Commemorating the 47 day Civil War battle in 1863, the 1,800 acre Vicksburg National Military Park offers insight into the outcome of the Battle of Vicksburg with monuments, reconstructed forts, canons and a cemetery via a 16-mile driving tour. Ask for a guided tour at the Welcome Center and a park ranger will provide you with deeper insights along the tour.
Within the park stands the U.S.S. Cairo, which was retrieved from the bottom of the Yazoo River in 1964.The adjacent museum displays thousands of artifacts that were found on-board, and the nearby Vicksburg Battlefield Museum is like walking into a Civil War gold mine.
Downtown Vicksburg
Downtown Vicksburg features the famed Catfish Row Art Park, a riverside park featuring festivals, outdoor exhibits, art, fountains and beautiful hand-painted murals depicting the city's rich history.
