Turning on to Main Street in Yazoo City is like driving into a surprise party. The historic buildings, some of them lovingly restored, have all been painted bright candy colors. There's antiquing and window shopping and galleries and restaurants; it's all very welcoming and fun.
Yazoo City is the heart the region, but Yazoo County has more to offer than its cheerful downtown. In neighboring Bentonia, you're likely to find Jimmy "Duck" Holmes sitting on the front porch at the Blue Front Cafe, ready to tell stories about his juke joint. The Bentonia Blues Festival takes place right here annually and Bentonia Bugs is just up the road if you're wanting crawfish.
The Yazoo River feeds an ecosystem full of wildlife; there are hardwood forest inhabited by white tailed deer, wood ducks, and American alligators. The Theodore Roosevelt National Wildlife Refuge has thousands of acres for recreational use by birders, hikers, hunters, and fisherman.
